A Strategic Mooring Workshop was held in May 2008 at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, Oban, with the aim of identifying areas of common interest and/or concern with the development and deployment of oceanic moorings, and to consider how European moorings groups can collaborate more effectively in the future.
Operational representatives from OFEG partner organisations considered what steps needed to be taken to train the next generation of moorings experts, possibly both through practical collaborative training and through the creation of training and reference materials.
Furthermore, as mooring success rates continue to cause concern, the Workshop considered what active steps need to be taken to understand and mitigate the risks inherent in mooring operations to ensure that there is a cost-effective recovery of data.
