Through an agreement within the Ocean Facilities Exchange Group (OFEG), The Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, also known as NIOZ, The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and National Science Foundation (NSF) will support the Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP) by taking on the ship time needs for the OSNSP EAST mooring arrays and instruments.
OSNAP is a large international program with PI’s from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, China, France and the Netherlands. The program has two components, with arrays west and east of Greenland. The OSNAP East moorings (21 in total) were first deployed in 2014 during a cruise on RV Knorr, supported by NSF. In 2015, all moorings were serviced during 2 cruises on RV Pelagia, along with additional work carried out during these cruises. For 2016, NERC has committed to take on the OSNAP East cruises.
